Finding Solutions, Breaking the Cycle

We’d like to hear from you!  As part of our Working Groups initiative, we’d like to know what questions and concerns you have about sleep-disordered breathing. Whether you are a diagnosed patient, parent, employer, you suspect that you or a loved one may have sleep apnea, or are a healthcare provider trying to help your patients navigate this process, we want to hear what obstacles you are facing so we can address them in our Provider Perspectives newsletter, panel discussions or our patient support meetings.

Please e-mail Dr. Liana Groza, the Spokane Sleep Apnea Network Coordinator, with any questions or suggestions. Contact:

Orthodontic pioneer, Duane Grummons, challenges us to look at orthodontics in a different way. This discussion highlights how we have failed to put into practice information that has been available to us for decades. Maybe it's time for us to catch up.

The Spokane Regional Sleep Apnea Network is an open community initiative designed to assist the local A.W.A.K.E. chapter of the American Sleep Apnea Association network and complement regularly scheduled patient support meetings with online resources, research updates and provider discussions.

Given that 80-90% of the 25 million Americans with sleep apnea are yet to be diagnosed (according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine), our mission is to create a coalition of local health care providers willing to work together to increase awareness about this condition in adults and children, find more efficient ways to screen, diagnose and treat at-risk patients and explore interdisciplinary therapeutic approaches based on the most current research and technology.

If you are a patient, or know someone who may have sleep-disordered breathing, we hope that the various resources found here are of practical use. If you are a health care provider, wellness program administrator or support group coordinator, please consider joining one of the working groups in this network, contributing references or sharing your professional insights in our Provider Perspectives forum.  With sleep apnea now firmly established as a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and stroke, in addition to its significant impact on daytime performance and quality of life, it is our hope that by coordinating an effective, multi-disciplinary strategy we can ensure that the most at-risk patients in our community have access to the necessary testing, preventive and therapeutic resources.
